The reason Liam has been cranky for two days straight has revealed themselves. Two wicked sharp teeth are coming out the front lower (side? jaw? mandible?)
Sometimes I click on the "Russia!" link that is promoted by LJ. Today I found a gem.
http://readrussia.com/blog/film/00022/ The Rolling "R" award. I love it! But the website claims that a winner will be chosen by February 15th - which is long past, right?
Anyway, if you want another educational link, you can see the 2007 post which does a nice round up of the best Russian acting actors.

it's Friday.
I spent six and some change hours today serving on the Nominations committee here. It was exhausting, but I did it "geek style!" I created a spreadsheet. It had every full time faculty member listed, along with their current committee assignments, next year's committee assignments, their preferred committee assignments, and was color coordinated as to their tenure/non-tenure status.
It was a thing of beauty.
And then, when it was time to create a slate for the Faculty Welfare committee, I simply looked down the sheet, saw those faculty members who were serving on NO committee, and had NOT replied to my request for their committee preferences.
Voila! Full slate of volunteers!

Here's a party idea I've been kicking around w/ Dan.
This whole idea came about because we were commenting how important it was to us to expose our kids to multiple cheeses. Not just cheese flavoured food product.
So I suggested we could have a cheese tasting. Have a "best tasting" cheese award or something.
And then we started spinning off ideas from there.
Show a mouse movie - most likely Ratatouille with the cheese tasting activity. (Ti is too young for Secrets of Nimh yet...)
Games: Pin the tail on the mouse. A game of "King of Rats" amoeba tag. Identify things in an opaque paper bag (a la 3 blind mice).
And for dinner serve Cheese soup and cheesecake.
And these! http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinde r/display?id=50362
This probably won't be a 2nd saturday event - perhaps sometime this summer?

If you missed the first episode of Kings, you can go to hulu and watch it. http://www.hulu.com/kings
It's a political series from NBC, so it has a bit of a West Wing feel - but with more explosions. The king is a good complex character. If you're familiar with the Old Testament you'll not be surprised by it, but it is a good resetting.

This is nice - I don't know if my office needs another poster yet, though.

I wasn't going to, but then Crazy_for_Books pointed out I have a year to fulfill my obligations.
And I like getting stuff.
Therefore:
The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.
This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
• I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
• What I create will be just for you.
• It'll be done this year.
• You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
• I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff!
Did you hear that? I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror. The craftiness has been disturbed. Mwuh ha ha ha...

Well, it didn't turn out how I had originally intended, but Number One Son's Halloween costume is done.
He's going to be the best (& only) Sherlock Holmes on the block!
I'm not sure why the costume as planned failed...I blame the baby-brain.

I have recently re-discovered Wil Wheaton's blog.
