Lunar eclipse
Just incase you hadn't heard, try to brave the frigid out doors tonight.

Speaking of space, I've just added The Day the Earth Stood Still and Contact to the library's collection. What class were these for?

Ooh, bad news. Just when the eclipse happened, the Navy was trying to shoot down a broken satellite with a missile. I guess the eclipse was too distracting and then things got out of hand. Here's the latest NASA photo.

Oops.

The good news is, the eclipse can be seen from our living room window, and Spenser's bedroom window. The bad news is, we hadn't tried to use his telescope before. I got the moon in there a couple of times - Molly got a nice view of it, then it got bumped and we lost it for about 20 minutes. Grrr. Spenser was a sweetheart, thankfully, so he played around with his telescope and I found another way for him to see it. It was an unexpectedly good time. Inside and warm, too, which was even better!

Watched it last night on guard duty through the vapors of my breath. Pretty darn neat!

I think I had to read The Day The Earth Stood Still for an avanced Lit class in high school, I think. I never had to read Contact for a class - I'd guess I'd use it either for a physics class; sort of to show what could be possible through the proper application of SCIENCE! or in a comparative lit class showing how science-fiction has progressed from its origins.
